Our Heritage
Tradition here is not kept under glass — it works. Every Kuraya lodge is a living timber structure: thatched roofs in the high meadows, century-old facades in the mountain villages. Woven floor mats are made by nearby hands. Glaze is fired in kilns that have burned for generations. The grain on your plate was grown on the same terraced slopes that have sustained this house for a hundred years.
One cedar key carries you through six valleys, from the snow-locked north to the volcanic south.
Three Daily Rituals
Waters drawn from deep within the earth — some clouded with mineral salts, some clear as melted ice. Immerse yourself in cypress barrels, carved stone vessels, or open-air pools that gaze out onto forest canopy, river boulders, or falling snow.
Rooms from intimate woven-mat quarters to sweeping corner suites. Paper screens filter the daylight, linens are turned down by hand each dusk, and every balcony opens onto moss, maple, or mountain stream.
Tasting menus shaped by chefs steeped in classical training. Wines drawn from neighbouring cellars, seafood from the dawn market, and every course paced to the slow rhythm of the evening.
The Six Lodges
Northern Lake District
A timber lodge perched above an alpine lake, where open-air soaking pools catch the first light on distant ridgelines. The gardens were laid stone by stone by three generations of the same family.
Cedar Valley, Central Highlands
Nestled in a cedar-lined gorge beside a rushing torrent, the lodge keeps seven stone basins hewn from local volcanic bedrock. Supper arrives with brook trout and foraged greens gathered before sunrise.
Deep Forest, Northern Range
A secluded thatched dwelling at the end of a winding forest track, known for its milky mineral pools and silent winter drifts. Copper pots hang over the great hearth in the gathering hall.
Willow Canal Town, Western Hills
A canal-lined village where guests stroll between thermal houses in linen robes and leather sandals. The kitchen serves pasture-raised beef and cold-season shellfish when the frost sets in.
Lantern Street, Eastern Mountains
A four-storey timber building on a lantern-lit lane that vanishes beneath snow each winter. Underground spring water rises through the floorboards into private cedar tubs in every chamber.
Twin Peak Valley, Southern Range
A modern retreat at the foot of a twin-summited massif, ringed by rice terraces, a private gallery, and guest rooms with floor-to-ceiling glass facing the spine of the range.
